Purple power is here to stay. Pantone Institute has named Ultra Violet as the color trend of 2018! The Pantone Institute is an authority on all things color related and their color report is a great benchmark for what to watch for in wedding colors, decor, fashion and more!
Part of being an industry leader is staying ahead of trends and keeping a finger on the pulse of our clientele to see how they are being inspired. Even last year, we talked about the power of purple and we have been seeing the 'Color of the Year' incorporated into a number of our weddings and events.
Expect to see this most passionate shade of purple providing a pop of color in wedding florals, wedding décor, wedding attire and even our food and drink!

WEDDING FOOD & DRINKS
Purple foods are slowly popping up everywhere! From purple cauliflower, asparagus, potatoes, carrots and cabbage to acai and elderberries, the power of purple goes beyond the vibrant color. The purple color comes from anthothyanins which is a nutrient-rich flavonoid and said to be a powerful antioxidant.
Our new wedding packages embrace the power of purple - you will find our Chicken Breast Roulade filled with Chorizo, Roasted Peppers and Scallion, Purple Peruvian Potato Galette with Fried Okra and Fresh Herb Velouté along with Korean Barbequed Salmon Filet with Rice Noodles, Purple Cauliflower and Micro Greens on our menus. We often use edible flowers like these ultra violet orchids to introduce color to your courses.
WEDDING CAKE AND SWEETS
Decorate your cake with violet blooms or with delicate ultra violet and pink sugar flowers to accent an ivory wedding cake. We love the trend of dressing up a wedding cake with ruffled ombre fondant. The ombre trend extends to sweets as well - cake pops and macarons are just a few violet sweets that will dazzle as the endcap of an ombre sweets presentation.
How about a signature drink? Handcrafted cocktails like our Blueberry Lavender Cocktail with Silver Rum will have your guests coming back for more! Or welcome your guests with our non-alcoholic quencher, a Blackberry Bourbon Smash! Serving drinks in purple-toned glassware is another elegant touch for table decor. This amethyst water goblet brings just a subtle hint of purple to the table settings.
WEDDING APPAREL AND ACCESSORIES
While outside of the scope of what we do as caterers, we didn't want to leave out some of the ways that our couples dressed and accessorized with a spectrum of shades of purple - from the high drama and glamour of ultra-violet at Kristine and Manny's Vizcaya wedding to Iris and Alain's elegant iris-themed garden wedding at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Although these color predictions are interesting to watch, the latest wedding trend will not sway someone away from what they have dreamed of. Wedding colors are chosen based on what they love - if they always dreamed of an all-white wedding, no shade of purple will draw them away. While it is important to be aware of current and future trends, it is more important to understand your clients needs and wants and help to make their unique dream wedding a reality.
A FINAL WORD FROM PANTONE ON THE COLOR PURPLE
“A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future,” says the Pantone team. "Enigmatic purples have long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance," Pantone says. "Musical icons Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of ultra violet to the forefront of Western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, there has historically also been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today's over-stimulated world."
